αγιογραφικοσ οικος
Αθανασιος Θ. Κουζογλου
He originates from Asia Minor but he was born in Katerini, Greece, in 1958.
In his youth he took lessons of painting from well known artists, where he discovered his interest for the Holy Art of Byzantine Icon painting, his real passion, where he has concentrated his vitality and creativity till today.
His knowledge on the processing of gold, on the variety of colors and the rendering of the spirituality of the forms, the accuracy and the respect on the traditional Byzantine Art made him well known and placed him as one of the most qualitative icon painters of Greece at the ends of the 20th century and the beginnings of the 21th.
His unacquired talent brought him to successful avocation also with other kinds of Byzantine Art, like mosaic floors and fitments. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that his mosaics can be easily compared with the mosaics of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice. Besides the tessera he is using for his work are products of international well known factories of Murano.
It is our duty, however, to make mention of the skillfulness of the artist to the original creation of stained glass, which is a product of the Western Christian art and tradition in combination with Byzantine Icon painting, and this should be welcomed as an international novelty.
His work can be found in many dioceses of the Church of Greece and monasteries and also abroad like in the church of St. George in Frankfurt, Germany.
